Within and without
Having done numerous sketches in studio, I wanted to go deeper and try to give life to the soul of the models here. I wanted to imagine what was on the inside; how one’s essence can be given life in wood, epoxy and paint.
So what is inside her soul? How does she connect with the world? What does she bring from the outside into herself and what does she keep at arm’s length? What comes within and what stays without?
The textures and materials here are also important: epoxy coats and covers the entire piece, like emotions coat the soul, or how a situation or relationship might envelope one completely. The contrast between the glossy surface and deep colors within are the contrast between one’s outer facade and inner being.
